Career Literature Courses for Physically Disabled at CIRTES

As per the countrywide sample survey conducted by National Sample Survey Organization in 1991, about 16 million physically disabled persons in India are suffering from visual/ speech/ hearing/ locomotor disabilities.

The Persons with disabilities constitute a significant section of our population whose potentialities need to be utilized to the maximum. However, in practice, due to prejudices prevailing in the society that

(i) Persons with disabilities are incapable to earn of his own and, therefore, is dependent on others for his livelihood and
(ii) The persons with disabilities are born in a family due to some wrong done by the parents in their past birth or life etc. etc. As such a great deal of resistance has to be overcome before placing them in gainful employment.
Several initiatives have been taken by the government to mainstream the disabled and rehabilitate them as well as provide opportunities to contribute to national life as well. The word “Rehabilitation” is an all-inclusive term. It is a process that covers medical or physical restoration, relevant therapy, training, job placement and evaluation based on the new outcome of research that took place in the area of medical and social sciences.
